 [Original Article posted at IGN on September 30, 2009] The stellar cast of the sci-fi flick John Carter of Mars just got starrier. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spider-Man 3's Thomas Haden Church, Solomon Kane's James Purefoy and Sherlock Holmes's Mark Strong have been cast in the Pixar-Disney live-action feature. The trio joins a cast led by Wolverine co-stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins in the lead roles and including Spider-Man's Willem Dafoe, Punisher: War Zone's Dominic West, Minority Report's Samantha Morton, and Rome's Polly Walker. Kitsch plays the title role of a Civil War veteran who finds himself somehow transported to Mars, while Collins portrays Martian princess Dejah Thoris. THR says "Church plays Tal Hajus, an ambitious and vicious Thark warrior who is biding his time to be a ruler. Purefoy plays Kantos Kan, the captain of the Xavarian, the kingdom of Helium's grand warship. Strong is Matai Shang, the ruler of the Thems with godlike status." Andrew Stanton (Wall-E) is directing. |
