The White Wash Sand Dunes
The road out to White Wash Sand Dunes was tricky to say the least. I couldn't afford the 4x4 daily rates on the Jeep Rubicon I needed, but my little Toyota Corolla rental got me close enough to a ridge overlooking the area they supposedly would be filming.

You can see from the photos what they needed to bring in just to get cast and crew down the ridge and into the sand dunes. Yes, those are military issue vehicles :)

Unfortunately, close enough was still crazy far away. So far that the blue truck you see in the top photo wasn't even visible to the naked eye. I only discovered it after going through the hi-res photos I took of the general area when I got back to my hotel. I've got a crazy hi-res camera. :)

You can make out a few fence posts marking the area off. Also, it's in the right place as per the last sign I saw which pointed in that direction. So, that combined with the fact that the area is completely closed to everyone other than the Disney crew (so who else could be down there?), this is very likely the shooting location at White Wash.

Is it Mars?
I would have said yes, but now I really don't know. Here's a few things we've heard recently... we know they are shooting an Earth scene at Potash, and I just heard yesterday that someone said the Fisher Towers location was actually an old Mexican Village set from another movie, and not a private farm. And lastly, I think I saw one of the Apache actors walking around town day before yesterday. So all signs seem to be pointing to Arizona shots on Earth.

So, unless I run into Willem Dafoe, Thomas Hayden Church, or any of the other "martians" around town, I'm going to withhold final say on the matter. :)

PLEASE NOTE: Due to EXTREME technical problems with the website yesterday, I didn't have time to put together my usual collection of my free-time Moab shots. I'll try to combine them with tomorrow's if possible. I apologize for how long it took to fix the server outtage. We had massive hard drive failure on my webserver, completely unrelated to the JCOM site.

This happenned mostly because of my bad luck. Whenever I leave Louisiana, things seem to go wonky with my servers. So, overnight we had to build a completely new web server from the ground up and miraculously recover the data from the old one. If it wasn't for my genius buddy Murali's herculean efforts back home in Louisiana, you wouldn't be reading this now. Thanks Murali!!!

RARE DISNEY MARS & BEYOND ANIMATED SERIES

What the?!?! Yeah, that's what I said too when I saw this... this is a Banth from Disney's 1957 space series, Mars and Beyond. Click the photo above to view the clip.

This hysterically funny video mentions Barsoom in pretty good detail at around 2:44 in the timeline. Check it out!
