New Intel and Photos from the Sets in Utah!! 05/03/2010

The locals in the Lake Powell area are all a buzz about Disney taking over their town of Big Water. They've seen films before in the area, but nothing like this; Disney is everywhere. Besides the massive sets which had been under construction for almost a year before film crews arrived, they have taken over many of the buildings in town, re-commissioning them as effects and prop depots. From what we hear, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a prop or two from the John Carter Movie.

We've recently been in contact with another local in the area who is as excited about the movie as we are, and has run around taking notes and snaps for us. Shown here are the ones we are able to show you. Our source writes:

I know people around here want to go see the movie more after seeing the props laying all over Big Water. This place is getting like mini Hollywood with all the movies filmed here. Last prod crew was filming the Budweiser commercial in november that is showing now on Nascar races with the National Guard. Watch the movie Evolution, it was almost all filmed here in Page. I've been camping lots of times where the ship was shown to land in Planet Of The Apes...

All the photos are taken from road and not on set property; security won't let you any where near the sets. The statutes are broke and laying by the road next to where they store the props. It's hard to tell what they are but they are laying face down, one has the head broke off. The rafts are what they are using on the lake.

One of the rafts is pictured in the photos. If these are indeed floating rafts, then that of course implies WATER ON MARS!!! Sounds alot like the Lost Sea of Korus might be making an appearance! That or at least one of the many canals... We've got Therns, so why not their homeland in the Valley Dor?

The statues he is referring to are 20-foot high, stone figures of what appear to be Tharks kneeling in supplication. (Sorry folks, we were only able to show the side of a broken head photo on that one) They do indeed have four arms, but how they are attached as well as their musculature isn't evident as they are face down in the dirt and their arms are tucked to their chest (in prayer?). We can only guess that they are massive window dressing for a Thernian temple. Yes, you heard me... a Thernian temple...

Apparently, there is also a ten foot model of what our best guess would be a temple to the Therns. It certainly feels like a temple. Sort of a cross between an Aztec pyramid and a Multi-tiered Japanese shrine. It's very natural looking, it's made to look like it's hewn out of the living rock. Unfortunately, it's one of the photos we aren't able to show you, but it is just barely visible in the arena photo. It's directly beneath the scaffolding on the right side of the photo, just to the left of the two dark rectangular openings. It's pyramidal in shape.

And we are so excited about the arena photo! This must be the fighting arena mentioned in our last article, most likely in Warhoon. The last article called the arena "The Monkey Arena" probably meaning White Apes. Like most everything else we've seen, it's very much natural looking, apparently hewn out of solid rock. It's where our hero will undoubtedly be forced to fight to prove his metal against the warriors and creatures of Barsoom!

RARE DISNEY MARS & BEYOND ANIMATED SERIES

What the?!?! Yeah, that's what I said too when I saw this... this is a Banth from Disney's 1957 space series, Mars and Beyond. Click the photo above to view the clip.

This hysterically funny video mentions Barsoom in pretty good detail at around 2:44 in the timeline. Check it out!
